Volunteer Summer Staff
Summer 2020 Update
After much prayer, discussion, and consultation with our local health and government authorities, it is with a heavy heart that Word of Life has decided to cancel our 2020 New York Summer Camp programs. While we are greatly disappointed to miss out on the summer season, it has become clear over the past several weeks that additional New York State guidelines and restrictions have made camp completely unfeasible.
Please know that our campers, staff, and community are of utmost importance to us. We trust the Lord, and we are praying that this decision to cancel summer programs will provide new ways for us to reach today’s youth with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are constantly reminded that although we could not have conceived a scenario where we wouldn’t be running camps a few months ago, our God knew that all of this was coming, and He will redeem this time for His glory.
Coronovirus Update 4/20
Dear Crew Members,
As you know, we have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation very carefully. While planning for this summer, we have considered a multitude of factors, including government restrictions, the health and safety of our guests, students, and staff, and our ability to physically prepare for camp amongst all of the current restrictions.
With that in mind, Word of Life has made the difficult decision to consolidate our camping ministries this summer. We are still planning to offer both our youth and family camp programs! However, this will look very different from normal. We will not be opening the Island property for camp this season. Instead all youth camps, the Ranch, Wild and Island, will operate from the Bible Institute property. In addition, our family camps programming will all be run from the Pines property, with limited lodging space only available at the Lodge property. This is not the decision any of us were wanting to make, but at this time we feel it is the safest and most responsible way to operate this summer.
We want you to know that we still need your help! Obviously, these changes will affect the way that camps operate, and some positions and assignments will change, but you are still a critical part of this ministry. There is a great need for Camp Crew especially with the consolidation of camps, and we need you ministering alongside us in order to create the best camp experience for our campers and guests this summer.
This year at Word of Life Bible Institute, our theme was “Connected”. God is providing us with a unique opportunity to live that out in a totally different way this summer— you'll be connected with old friends from years past and new friends from different camp properties. We believe it’s going to be an incredible time of growth and learning. These changes provide a great opportunity to live out "Connectedness” in a tangible way, and we want you to be part of it.
At this time, we are still planning to open as scheduled and all current arrival dates remain unchanged. If there are changes in these plans due to government regulations or continued health concerns, we will be sure to communicate these as soon as decisions are made.
A letter from our camp directors
Summer camp will be here before you know it and we’re expecting another amazing season at Word of Life. Our online applications for summer camp staff is now available. As we plan for the upcoming summer, we wanted to make you aware of some exciting changes in our Camps Crew (formerly STC) program.
Camp Crew members will be officially joining the ranks of our “short-term missions” team at Word of Life. If you’ve served before, you know taking part in the summer team is not simply a job. It’s a real ministry that leads to radically changed lives – yours and the lives of so many others.
Our Camps Crew program is designed to grow you and to put your faith into action like never before! Special ministry training, activities and outreach are planned throughout the entire summer. There’s also the benefit of earning up to $4,000 in Word of Life Bible Institute scholarships by serving during the summer of your junior and senior years.
As part of this program, Word of Life provides room and board. A weekly salary is available for those who choose the option of raising support. We have a team and tools in place to help you in the support raising process.
We look forward to receiving your application. Contact us with any questions at 518-494-6215.
God bless you,
